A serious accident took place in Middletown Township when a car hit an unoccupied tanker truck. According to police reports, the crash took place in a construction zone near Neshaminy High School. Police received a call at about 10:10 p.m. on a Wednesday night alerting them to a two-vehicle accident.
When they arrived, officers found the accident in the southbound lanes of Route 1. That is where a Subaru Impreza suffered heavy damage. Information available indicates that the driver struck the unoccupied tanker truck that was part of the active overnight construction zone. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later caught and arrested. One of the passengers in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. No construction workers were hurt.
Construction Zone Causes of Accidents
Construction zones create hazardous conditions for many reasons. Even with flashing lights and cones, it can be challenging for drivers to follow paths, especially in the dark. Yet, drivers are responsible for slowing down and obeying all posted construction signs. For the victim in this situation, the driver could be liable for their losses for failing to monitor changing conditions.
There are situations where the construction company could be liable. That is especially true if they failed to park the vehicle properly or provide ample warning.
