Oil Spills Can Be Dangerous
Reports indicated that the truck, which had two tanks on it, had a large hole in one of the tanks, allowing as much as 2,000 gallons of home heating oil to spill onto the roadway. The Upper Providence Township fire marshal was investigating the incident. They found that the truck had left a filling station located in Marcus Hook and was en route to its destination in Marple Township at the time of the incident.
The driver was able to crawl out of the truck’s cab and was taken to the hospital. In the meantime, numerous crews worked to clean up the scene, with concerns that the oil would reach the nearby creek. Oil could be seen on the bridge supports under the accident that led to the creek, but officials believe it did not make it into the water. Police are unsure what caused the accident.
