Person Killed in Car Fire in South Philly

A vehicle caught fire in the westbound lanes of I-76 near the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, approaching the Walt Whitman Bridge, according to police. The accident took place just before 6 p.m. Police reported that first responders were able to bring the flames on the vehicle under control. However, the Delaware River Port Authority, which responded to the incident, stated that one person had died in the accident.

There was no update on the cause of the crash or if the person who died was, in fact, the driver of the car. The fire was significant and closed down traffic along the bridge for several hours as police investigated and cleared the scene. They are said to still be investigating what happened.

Potential Causes of Car Fires

A car fire can occur for various reasons. Investigators will look for mechanical concerns first, as that is the most common reason for such events. This could include engine, fuel, or other related mechanical breakdowns that could lead to the vehicle catching fire. It is possible that the vehicle crashed prior to the accident, and that could have started the fire. In this situation, investigators may consider whether the driver was fatigued, intoxicated, or suffered a medical event.

Because there are many potential factors that play a role in a situation like this, it is essential for family members to seek the guidance of a local attorney for help investigating. If your family member loses their life in such an accident, turn to Kwartler Manus, LLC for a free consultation.
