Fighting for Victims of Pharmaceutical Malpractice

Call (866) 840-6708

Zantac—and other heartburn drugs manufactured with the same compounds—has been found to contain low levels of a carcinogen called NDMA, or nitrosodimethylamine. As a result, Zantac has been removed from shelves across the United States. Yet, prior to the recall many who suffer from heartburn and related conditions had been taking the drug regularly for years—if not decades. Those unfortunate enough to have developed cancer as the result of prolonged use of Zantac or similar drugs are encouraged to seek compensation. Our fierce legal team at Kwartler Manus, LLC can help you win the money you deserve.

Our national Zantac litigation lawyers can help victims recover damages for:

  • Disability or permanent injury
  • Lost wages
  • Medical costs
  • Pain and suffering
  • Punitive damages
  • Wrongful death

If you’ve developed cancer as the result of using Zantac, you have options. Call our national Zantac litigation attorneys at (866) 840-6708 or contact us online for more information.

Why Was Zantac Recalled?

In September 2019, the FDA announced that a suspected carcinogen called N-nitrosodimethlylamine (NDMA) was found in Zantac and similar drugs. Zantac, which was once the best-selling drug on the market, was recalled and removed from drug store shelves nationwide almost immediately. Experts believe only a few months of exposure is necessary for cancer to potentially develop in a Zantac user. Zantac was introduced in 1983, meaning that many people could have been taking the drug for decades before the NDMA connection was discovered.

Zantac (also known by its generic name, ranitidine) is a histamine-2 blocker. Ranitidine reduces the amount of acid your stomach produces. Zantac and other heartburn drugs treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines, as well as help with conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It was thought to be completely safe for regular use for over 30 years and was even endorsed and highly regarded by the World Health Organization (WHO). Because of this, it came as a shock worldwide when a connection between Zantac and NDMA was revealed.

For decades, NDMA has been known by the medical community to increase the risk of cancer in humans. While the manufacturers of drugs in the ranitidine family should have known about the link between Zantac and cancer, they failed to adequately research the risk or warn users.

What is NDMA?

NDMA, also known by its scientific name as nitroso-dimethylamine, is a chemical that, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, has been identified as a possible carcinogen, or a cancer-causing chemical. Through animal experiments, NDMA has been proven to increase cancer risks by modifying animal DNA. Health effects associated with overxposure to NDMA include fever, dizziness, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and jaundice.

How We Can Help

If you have been affected by the Zantac/ranitidine recall, you aren’t alone. Our dedicated attorneys have experience representing clients in pharmaceutical mass tort cases and know how to help. Mass tort refers to a civil wrong committed by one person, entity, or group which results in injury to many victims—in this case, the drug companies didn’t discover the potentially cancerous effects of ranitidine and recall the drug until it was far too late for some. By filing or joining a mass tort claim against Zantac, you may be able to get compensation for your damages and protect others from future threats.

Zantac users who have been diagnosed with any of the following cancers may be eligible to receive compensation:

  • Stomach cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Esophageal/colorectal cancer
  • Bladder cancer
  • Kidney/renal cancer
  • Leukemia
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Small intestine cancer

If you file a mass tort claim, our national Zantac litigation attorneys will work by your side to help you navigate the complex process with ease. It’s our job to help you recover the compensation owed to you.

Don’t hesitate to pursue the compensation you deserve to make up for the pharmaceutical companies’ mistakes. Contact us today to schedule your free consultation.
